Rathayatra - The Cart Festival

Manmatha Sri Jagannath

Madguru Sri Jagadguru

Mahatma Sarvabhutatma

Tasmesree Guruve Namah.

Today is the grand festival of Odia race, holy chariot festival. The adored deity of crores of Odia, today in his Patitpawan or nine-day Ghosh Yatra, on the basis of great human beings, he will become chariots in a fascinating procession to Badadanda to unite with uncountable devotees. Not narrowness, Odia community is entangled in the great mantra of "Basudhaib Kutumbakam"

During the festival, three deities (Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra) are drawn by a multitude of devotees in three massive, wooden chariots on bada danda (the grand avenue) to Gundicha Temple whereby they reside there for a week and then return to the Jagnannath temple.

“Nilachala Nivasaya ,Nityayaa Paramatmane;

Balabhadra Subhadrabhyam,Jagannathayate Namah “ 🙏

Each of the chariots has its own name. While Lord Jagannath's chariot is called Nandighosh,  Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra's chariots are named Taladhwaja and Darpadalana respectively.

I offer my humble prostrated obeisance’s to the internal supreme Power – Shri Jagannath – The Super Soul of all living entities .Who resides with his divine Elder Brother Sri Balabhadra and little Sister Shree Devi Subhadra in the most holy abode of Nilachal – Puri – nitya Baikuntha.

Lord Jagannath is a shining example of the philosophy that has given to the whole world. He is not Puri Nath or OdiaNatha

or Hindu Nath or Bharat Nath, he is the Lord of the universe Jagannath. As a people's deity, the God of Odia's life for ages, related from funeral to crematorium. Birth, engagement, marriage, fast, house warming, temple construction and establishment and finally his presence in funeral, he is the life of Odia race. It has been said that Baman in chariot, Dolagobinda in swing and Madhusudan in the pressure of Narendra Pushkarini, if you visit these three forms, you can attain Mahapunyarjan, Baikuntha Dham.
Dole tu Dolagovindam Chaape tu Madhusudanam
Rathe tu Vaamanam drustva Punarjanmam na vidyate .

It means, in Purusottama Kshetra or Puri, if you see Dolagovinda in Dola Yatra, Madhusudana in Chaapa (Boating journey of the Lords) and Vaamana in the Rath or Chariot during Rath Yatra or the Car Festival, then you will get moksha or salvation or liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Seeing or taking part in the Rath Yatra procession is said to bestow heavenly blessings and guarantee spiritual elevation. Deeper dedication and respect are fostered among the devotees by the chanting of hymns, singing of devotional melodies, and the sight of the majestic chariots.
Let's celebrate it with joy and devotion.

Jai jagannatha..

Jagannath swamy Nayan patha gami Bhava tume 🙏

Yours lovingly

Nilamadhab
